The Iron Maidens (Official Women!)

THE IRON MAIDENS

The only female tribute in the World… authorised!

The beast with a pink strap.

Fantastic! There’s no other adjective to use to begin this review.

I’m not really a fan of tributes. Recently there have been a lot of them at the Hard Rock Live in Mexico City. Guns ‘n Roses, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, and some Mexican rock groups, yet this time around it, was extremely different.

When I heard about “them” and checked their website, I found that Derek Riggs was the author of their web design, especially for Eddie (what a lady!) Yes, the same Riggs from Iron Maiden. So I got in touch with them and got a hold of flyers to promote their tour in this city. And I did it.

I downloaded “The Phantom of the Opera” demo from their website. I was so surprised for its originality, sound, and voice, I couldn’t believe it. What came next was the e-mail I received announcing I was on their “Guest List” for the concert at the Hard Rock Live.

The date was on September 15th; Mexico’s Independence Day. I fucked up the whole family celebration (once again) and went to mass at the Hard Rock Live, of course, with “my girl”.

What I heard, read, and saw at the web about this female group wasn’t enough I wanted to enjoy it “live”. We arrived at the sacred precinct at “Campos Eliseos” at 9’o clock, sharp I was on the guest list we went inside immediately.

At 9:30 four “people” appeared on stage (two male and two female) trying to do their best, singing covers (gothic, speed, hard, and heavy metal). I think they played six songs. Alas, from to start they were rejected by all the maiden fans!

They acted professionally. They finished what they started.

The metal headbangers were desperate for the presence of the “female maidens”… we were anxious to listen and enjoy the “The Number of the Beast”… live! Now, “she” (the beast) was the exact pronoun.

At 10:30 pm, the lights went off. The two guitars, bass guitar, and drums were in front of us. Our heart exploded with the first strings of “Children of the Damned” and “Two Minutes to Midnight”. We were a few meters away from the vocals of “Bruce”.

Excellent strings, drums, and vocals. A far better experience was the songs that the original Maiden rarely plays: “Revelations,” “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Transylvania,” “22 Acacia Avenue,” “Aces high”, or “Remember Tomorrow.”

Obviously, we enjoyed “Fear of the Dark,” “The Number of the Beast,” “Hallowed by thy Name,” “The Trooper,” and “Run to the Hills.”

The Iron Maidens were formed in 2001 and have quickly established themselves as one of the most popular tribute acts in the world. Their international recognition has now reckoned Mexico City.

The line-up of this female group is: Aja “Bruce Chickinson” Kim on vocals, Linda “Nikki McBURRain” McDonald on drums, Elizabeth “Adrienne Smith” Schall, and Sara “MiniMurray” Marsh on guitars, Wanda "Steph Harris" Ortiz on bass and, of course, EDDIE.

They are “tough and sensual” girls on stage. Seeing them “live” is like a time journey to the past, remembering The Iron Maiden of the early 80’s with Paul Di’Anno, like an unplugged concert with the technology of that era.

Believe me; you have to have this album in your metal collection. Otherwise, you’ll be out of the “Official ‘Maiden’ Headbangers List”.

After almost 2 hours of metal music, the concert was over. What would the encore be? I was praying for them to play “Run to the Hills”. And there it was: RUN TO THE HILLS, announced by Aja.

This day was very special ‘cause we started the musical journey with Paulyna Carraz and ended with The Iron Maidens!

Ballads, Metal, Love, Kisses, and an excellent Female Tribute to IRON MAIDEN were the exact formula for Magic, Illusion, and Dreams coming true.

Follow the career of THE IRON MAIDENS and don’t lose sight of any of their achievements.
